What I am reading today #1
I am reading Dune, the first book. Or rather I am forcing myself to read Dune would be a better description.
Dune is not an easy read. Herbert(the author) puts you dab smack in the middle of it all without bothering to ease you into it . On each page you google a whole lot before you even begin to understand the world, the characters , the names ( they're honestly difficult to get used to at first for an Indian ear)
I've put the effort into it and I am 3 chapters down, and honestly I am starting to see why this book is celebrated so much.
Lately I have felt that my attention span has decreased considerably . I have watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy a gazillion times but I have never read the book, which is a source of disappointment for me every time I think what a great job the movies did. I used to enjoy a good slow burn, but that hasn't been the case of late . When you invest time into a story ( a movie, show, book, anime, manga, what have you ) and when the pay off finally arrives, the satisfaction you feel just cannot be described in words.
I felt the same satisfaction finishing the 3 body problem trilogy by Liu Cixin. Again , I was helped by the TV show's first season to discover that such a brilliant take on science fiction existed. But once I found it , I knew I had to finish it. It took me more than 18 months to finish the trilogy but I did, I am so so glad I did.
I will be back with an update once I am halfway through this book ( eventually I am sure, but I am trying not to put pressure on myself)
