Today I was watching a reel which was talking about why fiction/fantasy books have a way of inspiring or giving you hope much better than self help or non fiction books ever could.

The person in the reel goes on to share an example from the Lord of Rings where Gimli and Legolas were talking to each other whilst faced with another insurmountable odd, I forget the details, but the conversation went something like this( again , not the exact words)

Gimli : All the battles we've fought, all the astronomical odds we have overcome, I would have given up a long time ago if it had not been for your untimely laughs

And that got me immediately thinking about Dragonball Z. When i was watching that show , it always felt so stupid that there was no limit to how much you could upgrade just by training. Super Saiyan 1, 2, 3 and who knows till what levels does that go.

Faced with an insurmountable odd, Goku (or Gohan or Vegeta) always found another layer of will deep inside them , they just fucking refused to give up . Only now do I realize in my late 30s that unless you hyperbole the shit out of something , no one takes notice . Only when life has battered you down , you start to see the layers these stories had always wanted you to see. The moral of the story was never to tell you that you have to be more powerful than the other guy , the moral was that in real life you can never quit ( I mean apart from death). If you are alive , you have to get out of your bed someday and face your demons(battle yourself)or face your problems (battle the outside world)

So this reel made me get off my ass and start something I always wanted to do. Journal, write and document hope ( and somewhere down the line , rest of my emotions) , because something i have noticed of late , the cynical world we live in, the documenting of the bad/negative/pessimistic things, our mind does that by itself and has gotten pretty fucking good at it. Hope, that we have to document, because god knows the world needs it.

And just to bring this post a full circle, I will sign it off from a quote from our good friend Sam

There is some good in this world Mr Frodo, and that's worth fighting for

Hope For the day #1
